Mining Skills Shortages - what can rectuiters do?

It’s everywhere – in the news, in job figures, on discussion boards… The news that the Mining Industry is suffering from one of the worst skills shortages in history is no surprise to any of us. The hit is estimated to have directly impacted 40% of the industry.

"As one of the most important industries in the Australian economy, it is without surprise that within the last six years, employment within the sector has risen by 56 per cent," the Australian Bureau of Statistics states. With forecasts that there could be growth of AT LEAST 30,000 construction jobs EVERY year up to 2015 and the number of jobs in mining and gas operations may grow by 65,000 – growth expected for this sector is astounding! (reference here).

As the peak of skills shortage is not expected to ease until at least 2020 (reference here), it puts those with specialist training and experience in the very nice position of being in demand and therefore being able to take your pick of the jobs on offer!

What exactly does the skills shortage mean?

The skills shortages have been referenced as the industry not having enough workers with at least 10 years of experience. It is fascinating to note that “qualifications” have become the enemy of the skilled worker – with many experienced workers believing that their lack of qualifications excludes them from many roles within the mining industry. In fact the opposite is the case – the Mining Industry is not as concerned with a piece of paper as they are with hands on experience.

What are some mining roles in demand?

There are limitless roles in demand at the moment, but some of the areas include:

  • electricians
  • fitters & turners
  • mechanics
  • truck drivers
  • boilermakers
  • riggers
  • crane operators
  • blast hole drillers
  • construction
  • excavator operators

in fact – the list goes on (and on and on!). Skilled tradespeople could indeed benefit from a change of industry!!

What do recruiters and experienced staff have in common?

Now you need to do YOURSELVES a favour and capitalise on this grand opportunity! The best way to keep your profile in the forefront is to use a job seeker service that GUARANTEES the quickest response!!

At JobEzy we are aware and have responded to the increasing use of the mobile phone to receive and apply for jobs!! When any industry has an overload of vacancies, it can be overwhelming to try the traditional job board systems to find your ideal position.

As a recruiter – you want the quickest and simplest way to stay in touch with your ideal candidate pool.

As a job seeker - you want to be at the forefront of the applicants, especially when you could potentially be in demand!

It makes sense then to utilise a system specifically designed to help you to quickly and easily stay in close touch! More than any other industry the remoteness of the mining communities means that both job seekers and recruiters need a system that can be easily accessed any time, that has real time notifications and allows real time responses. So come on over and try JobEzy - Job Ads that FIND YOU!!!
