LinkedIn is fast becoming the go to place for employers wanting to research their potential new employees!
There is no doubt that Social Media has taken the world by storm! In my honest opinion (can I use the social media convention IMHO?!), I'm one of those people who applauds the freedom of information, the connections, the personalisation of once untouchable idols, the opportunities that are becoming available for the classes that previously were disadvantaged. I have made many fantastic new friends on line – I have found support for my ideas that challenge my family and close personal friends, online connection has opened up so many dimensions for so many people!
I am also a HUGE fan of how social media has been a game changer for business! No longer are there a small handful of generalized experts, but we are now able to access the larger pool of specialist knowledge that traditionally cost an arm and a leg! Businesses are able to expand their reach and influence, they are able to invest in virtual knowledge and talent and there is no excuse anymore for the ‘uneducated’ buyer! The Web 2.0 is all about opening doors, creating connections and growing our capacity to reach, learn and influence!
No, I can’t sing the praises of Social Media enough!! In saying that though, I have to admit that it surprises me the delay with which many larger companies are adopting to take advantage of the SUPER information highway! It seems to me that smaller businesses, entrepreneurs are the early and made keen adopters (and I am happy to stand corrected if anyone can show me differently). The one exception to this rule though seems to be LinkedIn!!
When I joined LinkedIn sometime ago (feel free to connect with me if you like: Stephanie Bressan), there were mainly my fellow entrepreneurs and small biz owners – but NOW I am linking with many of my corporate colleagues from pre-baby days! With just 238 connections I have access to a network of OVER 5 million professionals! I have found old customers, old friends and new business!
LinkedIn is an AMAZING tool for anyone who is serious about business! Some of the fantastic features include:

- How many times you have appeared in search results
- Job vacancy suggestions – and the connections you have to introduce you to the job!! (ok – I now I’m probably nerdy being super excited at this, but you have to admit – this is a WINNER!! It’s not what you know but who you know!!!).
